Firmware Updates

We will occasionally release new software for the Internet-connected Aggie A to fix bugs or to add new features. This should become less frequent as time goes one, but will likely happen fairly frequently in the coming weeks as our new users find things we should fix.

Version 1.10 – Released Aug 10 2022

Changes:

  • (1.2) Enable the Light the A Blue mode while using the holiday lighting (it will still turn blue when the Aggies win, but otherwise use the holiday color scheme).

  • (1.2) Automatically re-downloads the web files when a new firmware version is loaded.

The Easy Way (if you can still access the web page on your device):

  1. Download the latest firmware from this link
  2. Navigate to the web update page on your device at http://aggiea.local/update
  3. Select the downloaded file and begin the upload. After it reboots, it should still connect to your home network. It will take about a minute to download the updated webserver and install it on your device.
  4. After the update has completed, navigate to http://aggiea.local and verify that the version matched the latest version.

The Hard Way (if your device appears to be bricked):

  1. Download the latest firmware and the default filesystem from firmware link and filesystem link.
  2. Follow the instructions here.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: I seem to have bricked my device (no lights are coming on) how do I fix it?
A: You will need to re-upload the full firmware and filesystem to the board over the USB cable (rather than via WiFi). Follow the instructions here.

Q: When I connect directly to my Aggie A device by connecting to the AggieAP wireless access point in the first step, I don’t get the pop-up box asking me to configure my home wireless information. Did I do something wrong?
A: No, you didn’t do anything wrong. Sometimes pop-up blockers, anti-malware, and anti-virus software running on your computer or limited capabilities of your router won’t allow that window to open. The solution is to manually open your web browser and type in either the URL “captive.apple.com” or “192.168.4.1”. This won’t take you to an Apple website, but because they are the ones who originally developed this method of connecting to the device and telling it how to connect to your home network, that is the URL that is still used. You should then see the configuration web page show up in your browser and you can continue the instructions.
