FanSync Device Updater 1.0.1
================================

Updates your FanSync device with the newest firmware. Nothing to install.

Firmware included in this download:
  - Utah State University (USU): version 1.16
  - Washington State University (WSU): version 1.16

HOW TO USE IT
-------------
1. Plug your FanSync device into your computer with its USB cable.
2. Open the program for your computer (see below).
3. Choose your school from the list.
4. Click "Update my device" and wait until it says your device has been updated.
Keep the device plugged in the whole time. It takes about a minute.

If something goes wrong, the program offers to save a small log file.
Please email that file to FanSync support so we can help you.

WHICH ONE DO I OPEN?
--------------------
Mac macOS folder -> double-click "FanSync Updater"
The first time, macOS may say it cannot check the program for malicious
software. This is normal for programs that are not from the App Store:
              - Click "Done" (not "Move to Trash").
              - Open Apple menu > System Settings > Privacy & Security.
              - Scroll down, click "Open Anyway" next to "FanSync Updater", and confirm.
You only need to do this once.

Windows    Windows folder    -> double-click "FanSync Updater.exe"
If Windows shows a blue "Windows protected your PC" window, click
"More info", then "Run anyway". If your device does not show up, unplug it
and plug it in again; Windows may need a minute to set up its USB driver.

Linux Linux folder -> open a terminal in that folder and run: ./FanSync-Updater
If it says "permission denied", run chmod +x FanSync-Updater first.
If the program cannot use the USB port (or does not find the device):
              1. Run sudo usermod -aG dialout $USER
              2. Log out and back in (or restart), then run groups and check that it
                 lists "dialout".
              3. To skip logging out, start the program with: sg dialout -c ./FanSync-Updater

NOT WORKING?
------------
- Use the USB cable that came with your device, plugged straight into the computer
(not through a hub). Some cables only charge and cannot send data.
- Close any other program that uses the device (serial monitors, the Arduino IDE).
- Click "Scan again" in the program after plugging the device in.
- Click "Advanced" to see exactly what the program is doing, and read it to us over the phone.
